CP Open 3rd Series

... No picture entry. Angle entry into water, cross point and re enter water, get out on a smaller point and angle reenter water, long swim to finally angle exit, take two channels at end of blind, duck approx 20 yds up on land. Approx distance 380 yds.

CP Open 3rd Series

20 were called back to the 3rd series including Ella. There are now 7 handlers left with dogs still in contention.

CP Qual First Series

... Is a triple. Long middle, right retired, left flyer. So far 19 of 20 dogs handled, mostly on right retired. It is thrown straight away from the line into the edge of the woods. More to come...

CP Open 2nd Series

... Land blind ran right of the first series. Distance 380yds from clubhouse to the side of the dam at the back of the Goose pond. Cross a road twice, pass the corner of a pine tree stand, left casts put you down a road or right casts put the goose pond into play. Good blind but unforgiving if you get offline.

CP Open 1st Series Call Backs

...rumor is 31 have been called back.

CP Open 1st Series Callbacks

Waiting on callbacks to the second series. It was announced the callbacks were to be posted at the Jameson Inn, but so far no news.

CP 1st Series - Update on the test setup

It is a triple, order is middle long retired, left retired, right flyer, with honor. Middle is thrown left onto a mound, left is thrown to the right along a tree line, right flyer is thrown right across a cut row into a stand of broom straw. They are running about 10 dogs per hour.

CP 1st Series Continues

Moderate rain started but did not noticeably affect visibility. The wind, however, picked up from calm to right to left. The flyers were not riding out as far as they were this morning since the flyer is thrown left to right into the wind. Some dogs are catching the flyer scent on the way to the long middle retired and several picked up as they headed back to the flyer station.

CP 1st Series Update

First 6 dogs ran, one handle and one pickup. Four good jobs including Ella.

CP Open 1st

... Will be tripple with two retired. Probably middle, left, right retired. Waiting on test dog.

Carolina Piedmont Field Trial

This is the first Retriever Entry event for me. The cataloges are square booklets which makes it a bit tricky trying to stuff it in your back pocket. Rain cant be far away so expecting another soggy weekend. Starting number in the Open is 21. Qual starts tomorrow.

Saturday, March 21, 2009

LR Master 1st

...is a tripple with a blind between middle long gun and short right flyer. The left gun is tough to see because of the shade that covers up the throw and fall.

Training - March 16

Thanks to all who followed the Cape Fear trial and posted comments.

Today was a wet and soggy day, it was a training day heavy on tune ups and training maintenance. The rain should take a break for a few days and we will be preparing for the Lumber River hunt test this weekend. The usual coverage will be in place, providing cell phone coverage is good in the Linden, NC area.

Cape Fear Qual 4th Series

View of 4th seriess from the honor box.

Cape Fear Qual

A big tripple with honor awaits. Two long birds involve stay in the water lines and the short bird is thrown into a close pond. Waiting on some logistics to get resolved before the test dog runs.

Cape Fear Qual

The rain finally started. Test dog will be running soon. More to follow.

Cape Fear Qual

The Qual 3rd series was very unique. The hander's leave the holding blind and walk up to the running line. As the dog and handler reached the judges, one of the judges gave a duck call similar to a hunt test walkup. A gunner approx 60yds from line responded with a dry shot, at which point the hander was given the "dog" release by the judge. From there, you were on your own to run the water blind.

The line to the blind was run off the mound into a channel. Exit the channel onto a point, past the dry shot gunner, back into a bay. Exit the bay onto land to the blind. Total distance approx 130yds.
Fun to run, the test drew a large curious gallery. The dry shot drew many dogs far left offline.

Cape Fear Qual

Third series is done. Fourth will be tomorrow am.

CAPE FEAR QUAL

Third series looks to be a poison bird blind. More to follow...

Cape Fear Qual

Second series is a double blind, run from behind a mound. Handler can move to top of mound when dog clears the top. Blind planter sitting in the open near end of blind. Corridor to blind is marked with blind planter and a ribbon.

CAPE FEAR OPEN

The second series is a double blind. A visible blind planter puts out a 60yd blind then sits in a chair. Pick it up then run the second blind close to the first blind, pass by bird crates deeper and to the right of the line, to the second blind 160 yds from line.

CAPE FEAR QUAL

The inline tripple is running well. Overheard judges say they expected short flyer would pull dogs attention off the middle and long birds but so far that has not been the case. All our dogs are "flyer-wise".
Cape Fear Qual
running dog 2. Inline tripple with short flyer.

CAPE FEAR FT UPDATE

The mist is starting to get heavier so it looks like the forecasted rain will hit today.

The Qual is scheduled to start at 9am and the Open and Am have not started yet.

Congrats!

... To Cash (Jerry Landreth) for getting Reserve JAM in the Derby today!

Cape Fear FT Series 1 Holding Blinds/Running Line

The test was run from on top of the mound and the test ran down the front side of the mound straight away and to the right.

Cape Fear FT Derby Series 4

The test dog was run from this spot however the test was revised to move the running line to the road in the foreground. The guns and throws remained unchanged, both throwing to the right.

Cape Fear FT Traffic

Here’s what  the line up of traffic looked like.

Cape Fear FT Open Series 1

Picture was taken from beside the mound and running line, which was to the left of where I was standing to take the pic. The order was middle, right, left flyer. The middle gun walked 10 yds to retire as soon as his bird hit the ground. The right gun retired as well, although there was a slight delay in his movement.

The left flyer go-bird fell behind a large mound that was approx 1/3 of the distance to the fall. The line to the middle retired was though the pile of brush approx 15 yards from the running line. The line to the right bird was through the corner of a channel that ran past the gun station, and the bird was thrown across the channel.

The wind was angling from left to to right but was basically blowing from behind us.

CAPE FEAR OPEN

Rotation is 49 37 13 25.
Cape Fear Derby
Retired Open dog ran as test dog and got lost. Waiting on changes to the test. It will finish today.

Cape Fear Derby 4th

Looks like a hip pocket involving many many points is taking shape for the 9 called back
Cape Fear Derby
Third series wide double from mound. Go bird on left & mem bird on the right is long angle entry & several points.
Cape Fear Derby
